Navigation Tips for Confluence
Understanding the Navigation Bar
The navigation bar in Confluence is your primary tool for moving through spaces, pages, and other important features. It is typically located at the top of the screen and includes links to your spaces, personal items, and global navigation options.
To efficiently navigate, familiarize yourself with the icons and labels present in the navigation bar. Each space has its own section, enabling you to quickly access relevant content.
Using the Space Sidebar
The space sidebar provides a structured view of the contents within a specific space. It includes links to pages, blog posts, and other resources. Here are some tips:
- Expand/Collapse Sections: Use the arrows next to section headers to expand or collapse content, making it easier to find what you need.
- Search Within the Space: Use the search bar at the top of the sidebar to quickly find pages within the selected space.
Example: When looking for a project document, type its name in the search bar. If the sidebar is too cluttered, collapse sections that you do not need.
Utilizing Page Hierarchy
Confluence allows you to create a hierarchy of pages, which can be visualized in the page tree. This helps you understand the relationship between different pages and navigate them more easily.
To view the page hierarchy:
- Click on the space name in the sidebar.
- Select the "Pages" option to view the entire page tree.
Example: If you have a main page titled "Company Policies," and sub-pages like "Remote Work Policy" and "Vacation Policy," you can easily navigate between them using the page tree.
Keyboard Shortcuts for Quick Navigation
Keyboard shortcuts can greatly enhance your navigation speed in Confluence. Here are some valuable shortcuts:
- G then D: Go to your dashboard.
- G then P: Go to the pages you've recently viewed.
- Ctrl + K: Open the quick search dialog for quick page access.
Example: Instead of clicking through the navigation, press Ctrl + K and type the page name to jump directly to it.
Bookmarking Important Pages
If you frequently access certain pages, consider bookmarking them. This can save you time and make navigation easier. To bookmark a page:
- Navigate to the page you want to bookmark.
- Click on the star icon in the upper right corner.
- The page will now appear in your bookmarks list, accessible from the navigation bar.
Example: Bookmark your team’s project plan to quickly access it whenever needed.
Leveraging Labels for Organization
Labels in Confluence can help categorize and organize content, making it easier to find related pages. Use labels to tag pages based on themes, projects, or categories.
To add a label:
- Edit the page you want to label.
- At the bottom of the page, click on "Labels" and enter your desired labels.
- Save the page to apply the labels.
Example: Tag pages related to a specific marketing campaign with the label "2023-Marketing" for easy retrieval later.
